ALL ABOUT THE ELECTRIC

The sky looked a bit grey as we left Kefalos for Kos town but as an early start at the Electricity board was required was not too worried that the rain was about to fall. The car-park leading up to Ampavris wasn't busy which was unusual and a diagonal stroll behind the bus station and drop down through the lanes was unhindered. The JD tour bus was disembarking on the quayside and the Ladies in the electricity office commented on the weather and chance of rain. Felt like I was back in the UK.
Back to rendezvous at my favourite pastry shop and meetup prior to serious shopping and ok so far. But OMG couldn't get out of the Tile shop. The heavens opened and cars were shifting sideways as they aquaplaned past. No chance if you were on foot or a bike/scooter. Knee deep in water and easier to paddle without shoes. It was like a tidal wave had hit the old Epar Road and judging by the videos of Kardamena was spreading itself across the Island. If anyone saw me sitting in the back of a car in Lidl's carpark with a strange man it was the only place to do business...NOT THAT KIND. At least I was able to select my door colours in the dry. But some poor sod didn't manage to get their groceries across the road, with fruit and dried goods swimming down the middle.
Off to Mastichari for lunch as the rain stopped but had the sense not to park on the beach and by the time we'd ordered a carafe of wine it started again. Any excuse for a long lunch with no possible chance of leaving. The Taverna ended up full. But by the time we'd left and driven home the rain stopped, the mini tidal wave had vanished and the green shoots on the side of the road were sprouting. The dust of the dry season had been washed off and exposed green leaves, purple flowers like Heather swathed the hillsides and back in the village the fruit on the trees looked like they'd been waxed. Warm sun and back to normal.

WETTEST WINTER

The Wettest Winter in years according to Ezzy's and the earliest starting in November. It's been pissing down, blowing a gale, with storms and even the lightest sprinkling of sleet and currently 6C. Thank God the main wall was finished before all this started but since then the Second wall and road remain elusive. The Building material lorry had to be pulled out by the Big Digger driver as it was stuck up to its axles in mud. But everything is all 'under control' I'm reliably informed just need the road completed before the International removers attempt to deliver pre Brexit as who knows what red tape will be involved at the end of March?

The tide of change

Winter has turned the tide of change. For years austerity dragged it's feet and uncertainty had kept things under. But this Winter has seen at least six new Happy Couples tieing the Knot with a house finished or next floor furbished for the Bride and Groom. The Iron man and the Concrete lorry has been kept busy in and out and around the Village with an agenda to meet a deadline before the new season starts. The new chemist is under construction. Ikos formerly Club Med is keeping some of the apartments full out of season with the workers and its been a bonus to many.

Those of you who remember the Old Police station at the bottom of the Hill where the officers sat playing Backgammon and cards will be surprised to see the force of the law has returned, this time up in the Village in the old council offices often a site for Dance, Drama and Politics as the building had so many uses over the years.

The Bank shut its doors for the last time on Thursday. So it's a cashpoint job or a trip to Kos Town. Where will the Priest go now for a chat and chance to put his feet up? Michalis can enjoy retirement although rumour of plans are afoot with a variety of options, so who knows and Maria is now a commuter into the great Metropolis.

Life goes on and soon the Season will return
